CHEMICAL PEEL PORTLAND

Chemical Peel at Rivière Med Spa Portland Oregon is a treatment that is time tested recipe for revealing new skin. We have a custom-made peel that we use for this treatment which helps peel your skin and start the process of skin-rejuvenation. To improve results, we also combine Chemical peel with other treatments such as microneedling.

For starters, a chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. In this treatment a  chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, rejuvenated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun so sun-protection is required as a post-care for this treatment. There are three basic types of chemical peels:

CHEMICAL PEEL TYPES

  • Superficial or lunchtime peel: Alpha-hydroxy acid or another mild acid is used to penetrate only the outer layer of skin to gently exfoliate it. The treatment is used to improve the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin as well as to refresh the face, neck, chest or hands. This is a great option for busy people who are always on the go and cannot take social down time. That is the reason why this is also referred to as a “lunchtime peel”.
  • Medium peel: Glycolic or trichloroacetic acid is applied to penetrate the out and middle layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and moderate skin discoloration. It also can be used to smooth rough skin and treat some precancerous skin growths, i.e. actinic keratosis. Rivière Med Spa mostly focuses on these types of peel
  • Deep peel: Trichloroacetic acid or phenol is applied to deeply penetrate the middle layer of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment removes moderate lines, age spots, freckles and shallow scars. Clients will see a dramatic improvement in skin appearance. The procedure is used on the face and only can be performed once. We usually do not use Deep peel at Rivière Med Spa as it is very disruptive and requires significant social down time.

The following picture shows how the skin peels off in a few days after the application of the peel. Our clients can see in this picture also how the new skin is revealed from behind. Sun protection is essential as the new skin is very sensitive to the sun.

Chemical Peels are a great option for people with skin of color. There is an outstanding myth that peels do not work for people with darker skin tone. We are adding a link from American Society for Dermologic Surgery on darker skin and Chemical Peel efficacy.
