Sun damage, hyperpigmentation, rosacea and flushing,visible blood vessels and enlarged pores can all be treated with IPL.
IPL does not use lasers, but another type of powerful light source called Intense Pulsed Light that reaches the deeper layers of skin tissue. Your provider will apply the gel to your clean skin. You’ll wear goggles to protect your eyes. The handheld IPL device will go right on your skin. The session will probably last 20 or 30 minutes. Large areas could take an hour or more.
While most people are fine with the light pulses, the treatment could sting a little. It might feel like someone is snapping a rubber band on you. It may feel like you have a sunburn for 4-6 hours after you’re finished. A cold compress or a cool washcloth can help you feel better.
Your skin may be red or swollen for a day or two. Some of your brown spots may get darker, but they should flake off within a week or two. During the treatment series, it is very important to protect your skin from the sun.
IPL can be used for hair removal. But at Rivière Med Spa Portland we have more advanced equipment for hair removal that will be more effective than the IPL and our laser for hair removal is painless.
Some providers may offer a cheaper deal for hair removal using their old IPL equipment. We will not offer hair removal with IPL as it is not an effective way to remove hair. We offer much better technology for hair removal.
Yes, there are some simple IPL machines available for direct purchase. Those are not medical grade and their efficacy would be questionable.

Great experience! The spa looked very clean and sanitary. They offered me a sparkling water when I arrived and a clean mask to wear on my freshly injected face as I left. This was my first time getting injections and Rachael was really great about listening to my goals and letting me know what I need to achieve them. I love the results and looking forward to my next appointment.

My initial laser hair removal treatment used a machine with a cryo blast for cooling. I had a reaction to the cryo and talked to Riviére about it afterward. They could not have been more kind and sincere. I expressed my hesitancy to come back for follow-up treatments but they were very reassuring based on new equipment that did not use cryo. Not only that but they said this new machine was pain-free. They offered a test area to prove their words so I returned. I am so glad that I did. The new machine truly is painless hair removal. Unbelievable ! It has me referring everyone I know as well as considering other areas for hair removal. Not only is the machine pain-free but the staff is professional and understanding. They have experience with the tools and services they offer so they can speak openly and honestly from a client’s perspective. And they treat you like a VIP which is always nice.
